Week 2-Post #2-MBA 6101-Self Driving Cars

Self driving cars are all a buzz now everywhere. As Todd Kelsey mentions in book "Surfing the Tsunami", how do you teach a car to drive? It's hard enough to teach humans to drive but to program a whole car how to drive is fascinating. Similar to programming a brain of the car it has its own software and sensors for each angle. Self driving cars are the future and I cannot wait to see where it goes from here ten years from now.

Pros
The pros of the self driving vehicles are that if more customers used them instead of getting behind a wheel while drinking. This not only saves lives but can be critical to the public and not sharing a road with someone who is impaired. The other pro I like to utilize in my own vehicle is the lane assist. In my Toyota SUV at times when switching lanes on the busy freeway I often have blind spots and my lane assist helps alert me when and if I try to switch when there is a vehicle already in the lane I am going to. My car will ding and push me back to my original lane. It also works for things like drifting. If I drift to either side, my lane assist will center me back in my lane. I can definitely appreciate the advanced technology that we have today and know that this is only the beginning.

Cons
The cons I have seen with these vehicles in Phoenix was more recently when there was a Waymo traffic jam in Downtown Phoenix and this isn't the first. Upon assessment by the Waymo team there seemed to be a glitch and once the team arrived on scene they corrected the software and got the vehicles moving. The other glitch was in San Francisco when a self driving car was pulled over because it had to headlights on. The officer was confused when they arrived at the driver seat to find no one and no one to give a ticket to. Obviously these self driving cars are going to have many kinks but the companies don't seem to think they are critical issues and can be corrected.
