Week 3-Post #2- MBA 6101 Comfort levels of AI in Healthcare

Two things I dislike are bad doctors and phone trees when I have a financial matter that is urgent. I am on board with AI in healthcare when it comes to eliminating busy work such as supplies being delivered or machines that can do a simple task that would otherwise require a person to do. Healthcare professionals are already stretched so thin and overworked to their very core that if AI can assist in some way, why not? In this article posted by CNN they discuss the benefits of having AI in the health industry. They mention that it can help with medical mistakes and racial bias. Now where I draw the line is if this AI entity is going to perform surgery on me or a loved one. I think doctors are paid highly to be doctors and perform the job they were hired to do. I do not think AI should be involved with anything that could result in someones death. One would argue, doctors would pose the same risk when they manage your care, medications and long term diagnosis. However, AI cannot do what doctors can such as provide good bedside manner or excellent patient care.

I think many things come to mind when you think AI in health care such as mammography machines that can detect breast cancer. Or ultrasound machines that can take pictures of your internal organs and detect any issues. When I worked in a hospital, my doctors would see a patient, take notes and go back to their desks and dictate all their notes per patient. Someone on the back end would listen to each recording and type verbatim what the doctor said. In this case, a ChatGPT would be super beneficial to the back end folks but would also be one of those instances where AI is taking a job. I think AI can be a benefit in the health care industry as long as those entities adopt those changes cautiously.
