Week 6 Post #1 MBA 6101 "Will AI Annihilate Humanity?"

In a recent podcast with WSJ, the future of AI is discussed with Elon Musk. Musk is a billionaire and one of the founders of OpenAI, the company that launched ChatGPT. It is used in Tesla vehicles as an advanced driver assistant. He was asked many questions in this podcast surrounding his purchase of Twitter, his thoughts on the future and politics in relation to AI. The part that makes me uncomfortable in this interview was when he was asked if AI would destroy all humanity. His response, “I don’t think it will destroy humanity, but it might put us under strict controls.” Per Musk, he says that we probably won’t recognize society in 30 years from now. There will be automatic everything from household robots that you can fully converse with and humanoid robots throughout factories. He also mentions that we are only three to six years away from artificial general intelligence.

His concern around social media is that the public would use this platform of AI to manipulate the public opinion which is one of the many reasons why he altered the use of Twitter after his purchase last year. To have an account on Twitter with a checkmark (verified) you must have a verified phone number and a credit card with a subscription that costs between $8.00 and $11.00 a month depending on the type of platform. This tactic caused quite an uproar with many users, celebrities included. This was to try and eliminate imposters using the platform and ensure the legitimacy and safety of all users. I personally don’t have a Twitter account, I felt it was a platform to complain on and I didn’t feel the use for one. With that being said, if a platform I used started to charge me to ensure my safety and that of others I wouldn’t balk at that.
